Raising a transgender kid

  1. The most important thing is letting your kid know that you still love and care about them no matter what. This statistically will help their mental health, as unsupportive families are detrimental to lgbt youth.
  2. As well as educating yourself and family on how to be a good ally and best support your kid. When educating yourself , use educational lgbt sources, as some sources for information are misleading and false which can be harmful to the lgbt.
*see section on social transition . Support groups for families, how to be good ally & use pronouns
*see section on representation for lgbt books for adults and kids
  3. Advocating for your kid at school and doctor for fair and supportive treatment.
*see section on how to find a lgbt doctor or therapist

  • FRIES is an accronym for consent that stands for: Freely given,Reversible,Informed,Enthusiastic,Specific.

What is Consent? Consent is a Yes, or permission to do something. This is freely given which means its not because someone threatened or manipulated you into saying yes. This can be taken back at any time, if you say yes and decide nevermind thats ok. This is informed, which means you completely understand what youre saying yes to and youre not deceived or confused on purpose to get you to agree to something. This is enthusiastic, or excited. You are happily saying yes, you arent sad or angry or scared about agreeing to this. The consent is specific, you agree specifically to something happening and say “yes”, not “maybe” or “im not sure”. Consent can also be non-verbal such as shaking your head, moving your hands, or walking away. Consent can be for sexual topics, but can also be for a hug between friends or a high five. This can be for not wanting to eat a certain food, or not wanting to watch a certain movie, consent is permission for anything in life, not just in sexual context. Its important for people of every gender and age to learn about personal boundaries and consent for their own safety.

What is SA? The term sexual assault refers to sexual contact or behavior that occurs without consent of the victim. How to Report SA?
